Proteomics resources on the web

Here is a guide to the best of the web sites which provide information, data and tools for those actively involved in proteomics. This guide covers much of proteomics but has an emphasis on mass spectrometry based protein identification. If you notice that we have missed something valuable, please let us know.

Tutorials for Practitioners

The proteomics tutorials listed here are introductions to the subject aimed at scientists who are learning a new field.

Glossaries — Look It Up

Each specialty has its own jargon. Proteomics is a collection of specialties (mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography, 2D gels, antibodies, molecular genetics, bioinformatics, biotechnology, medicine.) so it has a collection of distinct vocabularies.

What's Happening

These event oriented web sites list current publications, conferences and other events in the science, technology, and business of proteomics.

Forums - Ask a Colleague

Need answers to technical problems? Want to share your hard earned tips? These on-line forums will put you in contact with your colleagues in the field.

Database Resources

These sites guide you to the protein databases available for proteomics and some of the bioinformatics software available for accessing these databases.

Software for Protein Identification

This is a guide to the search engines which match MS/MS spectra to protein databases. This guide also includes several auxiliary programs useful for intrepeting mass spectrometry data.
